Understanding and Treating Hyperpigmentation Disorder

Darkening spots or patches that appear around the skin tend to occur quite often among all of us but they are usually harmless. It is called hyperpigmentation and this happens when there is an excessive amount of pigments that produce the color of our body forming a deposit in the specific area of our skin. Though they generally do not come with any obvious signs of disease, they can sometimes be emotionally distressing.

This problem can affect people with just about any level of skin colors, particularly of those with a darker skin tone such as Asians, Africans, Mediterranean and East Indians. They will be more prone to hyperpigmentation if they have excess exposure to the sun. Other than that, inflammation or other skin related conditions such as acnes may also lead to hyperpigmentation as well.

Some of the most used lightening products in Asian countries are those that contain kojic acid. It is an agent widely used to treat a number of hyperpigmentation diseases including melasma and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Both of the conditions are related to hyperpigmentation where they will cause skin discoloration on the face or any other parts of the human body.

Kojic acid has the ability to restrain enzyme tyrosinase, an enzyme that gives the skin its color by forming a deposit in the skin. As a natural ingredient, there are various types of kojic acid products in the market and they are available in forms of kojic acid soap and skin care cream. Hyperpigmentation related disorders are required to be treated with caution and care, so learn more about the product that you are using to make sure that they have no side effects and that they will work perfectly for you.
