Different Types of Surgical Instrument

The initiation of medical surgical equipment goes back hundreds and thousands of years in areas where hospital facilities of today could not be seen. Surgical tools & instruments of the time may include flints, saws and various different kinds of knives. Many health related procedures such as removing body parts with sharp items were performed commonly.

Though surgeries are not often performed by the Babylonian culture, minor operations involving small incisions are done using Bronze lancets. There are not much surgeries performed at that time because of the harsh penalties that will be inflicted due to negative outcomes. Back in the olden days, Chinese and Japanese cultures limited the number of surgeries because there were oppositions to cutting parts of the body, thus not much surgical instrument were used.

Medical surgical equipments such as blades and scalpels are used for a variety of procedures such as to the eye, brain, spine and to bypass heart surgeries. These instruments can be used for general health procedures or for specific conditions. By the middle of the 19th century, anesthesia and antiseptics were introduced in order to diminish and reduce the pain associated with surgeries. Medical instruments were sterilized beginning in the late 19th century and not long after, sterile rubber gloves were also introduced.
