Medical Transcription

Among the vast array of job professions in the health care field is medical transcriptionist. Medical transcription is a task where a recorded dictation or information from a medical doctor is transcribed into form of written documents and reports which are important reference files to both the physician and patient later on. A few examples of these medical documents are reports of autopsy, physical examination, medical histories, referral letters and so forth.

Language and listening accuracy is extremely important to every medical transcriptionist. In addition to good grammar and spelling, a medical transcriptionist shall also be proficient in various computing skills such as typing, editing and formatting.

A person must receive an accredited medical transcription training before he or she is certified and approved to be a real professional transcriptionist and begin providing service to the healthcare industry.

Trainees will be taught about ethics of handling confidential documents, using computer software and the internet for typing, editing and information gathering, medical terminologies, knowledge on drugs and treatments, physiology, pharmacy, various formats of different kinds of medical reports as well as many other medical and transcription skills.

Medical transcriptionists are allowed to work at home, in spite the fact that most of them are employed to work closely with the physicians and patients in hospitals or healthcare centres.
