Treating Fever Blisters and Cold Sores Effectively

Fever blisters and cold sores are usually caused by herpes simplex virus infection and they can often be very irritating and painful. There are however, many effective solutions and medications to take care of this problem. Fever blisters will not disappear right away, but these suggestions below will help speed up the healing process and minimizing the pain.

Lysine or L-Lysine vitamin is one of the best remedy to treat fever blisters. Begin taking L-Lysine vitamin when you start to feel a tingling sensation on the infected area. This vitamin can be purchased at any discount pharmacy or medicine store. Recommended intake per day is 1000mg but remember not to take the entire 1000mg in one single dose, divide the amount throughout the day.

Wash the infected area with warm water and Non-Comedogenic soap every 2 hours and dry thoroughly using a paper towel. Make sure not to use water that is too hot or it may cause scalding. Also, do not reuse the paper towel again because it might increase the chances of spreading the virus and bacteria. Apply a thin layer of Abreva after each wash and be careful not to apply it to anywhere around the mouth other than the blister.

Continue taking Lysine daily, washing and applying Abreva every 2 hours until the fever blister or cold sore has vanished. The entire healing process will usually take up to three or five days. If the problem persists beyond a week, consult a doctor immediately.

The best way to prevent these is to practice the habit of washing your hands regularly with soap and warm water, and always keep your body hydrated by drinking adequate amount of water daily.
